Children of the Phoenix
Duskers are a large, aggressive, and heavily armored species native to New Eden. They live primarily on the slopes of the Kurios mountains, where the First Colony was situated, and are the species responsible for that colony’s eventual destruction. However, Duskers do come down into the lowlands to forage. Duskers are herbivores, and are often likened to Terrestrial apes, but regarding habits, behavior, and social characteristics, they might be thought of as being more like the rhinoceros. Duskers are extremely ill-tempered and territorial. They navigate primarily through echolocation, and their entire forward extremity is built to function like the melon of a cetacean. Duskers communicate through a series of high-pitched clicks and whistles, which echo and rebound among the rocks of their native habitat. These calls are believed to be primarily territorial in origin, but are also used to coordinate movements, much like the howling of wolves. When a Dusker attacks, it does so as a solitary aggressor, but if it is killed, more will arrive. Duskers will make coordinated attacks to kill any predator or other large-scale threat within their territory, a fact which the early settlers learned, at the cost of their lives.
